Thomas “Tom” Morrison , J.D. (Iowa), LL.M. (in taxation) (NYU), will be coming up from Helena to enhearten CPAs concerned about future increased audits and provide his hard-earned experience on working through the audit and appeal process and building a persuasive case for judges. This won’t be just another litany of recent tax cases: Tom will be recounting historical tax cases with happy endings for worthy taxpayers with seemingly impossible cases … and laying out what persuaded judges that taxpayers deserved their win. Although Tom is a great storyteller, don’t write off this presentation as true-but-distant fairytales for CPAs – some of Tom’s cases will be recent anonymized-but-real Montana taxpayer wins!
Tom’s legal career includes 25 years with the IRS, 5 of which were as District Counsel in Washington D.C. and 5 as District Counsel in Helena, MT. He has maintained a private law practice in Montana since 1990, continues to take new tax cases, and possesses considerable expertise in Montana and federal tax law.
