MSU Alumni Foundation seeks to hire an Accountant!

The Accountant plays a key role in the accounting operations of MSU Alumni Foundation and its related entities. This position is responsible for preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, and assisting with month & year-end close processes.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Prepare and enter monthly journal entries in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (“GAAP”).
  2. Assist in review and verifying general ledger data to ensure accuracy.
  3. Reconcile bank and investment accounts on a monthly or quarterly basis.
  4. Approve disbursements to ensure proper coding.
  5. Prepare monthly accounts receivable billing function.
  6. Assist with treasury needs, which may include drafting transactions and/or transfers.
  7. Research and resolve accounting issues.
  8. Assist and support team with communication to internal and external parties, specifically accounting related questions and requests.
  9. Create and run reports from the accounting system.
  10. Assist in preparing year end audit and tax schedules, including pulling samples and assembling documentation.
  11. Support the team by assisting with special projects and other accounting-related tasks.
  12. Affect and maintain a professional, proactive, positive, highly collaborative and performance-centric work environment.
  13. Fulfill other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

SPECIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Strong knowledge of and ability to independently apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (“GAAP”).
  2. CPA preferred (or CPA candidate), not required.
  3. Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Excel.
  4. Ability to learn new software and tools to create task efficiencies.
  5. Ability to analyze and interpret accounting information and various policies and procedures.
  6. Ability to identify and solve problems, research and analyze data and account errors, and reconcile accounts.
  7. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to convey accounting information in a clear and concise manner that can be understood by non-accountants.
  8. Well-organized, efficient, able to work independently and meet deadlines.
  9. Ability to complete quality work with a high degree of accuracy.
  10. Effective interpersonal skills including ability to work with a diverse group of individuals in a positive team atmosphere and to establish and maintain working relationships.
  11. Ability to perform work with a high standard of professional ethics.

Preferred Experience:      Accounting experience in private or non-profit organizations, including journal entry preparation and balance sheet account reconciliations; preference for education or experience in fund accounting

Education Required:         Bachelor’s degree in accounting
