Montana Accounting Salary Trends
Every other year (odd years), MTCPA conducts a comprehensive salary survey covering all sectors of the accounting profession (public practice, industry, government, and non-profit). The survey, which is put out around July/August, provides valuable insights into salary and benefit trends across various demographics.

Key Details:
- Participants: Individual members contribute anonymously or with contact information. Participants receive the results at no charge.
- Confidentiality: All responses (including names and identifying details) are confidential.
- Available Data: Detailed breakdowns by title, organization size, industry, years of experience, and Montana location. Benefits results are also included.
- Comparative Analysis: Includes comparisons with data from the previous 2 surveys, along with the current results.

2024
The results support the conclusion that entry-level salaries in the field are not competitive. While there is plenty of money in accounting, it doesn't start to become really available until the manager and even the partner level (where things begin to get particularly interesting for those employed by large firms).
2025
It’s a strong year to enter the accounting profession, with entry-level salaries rising significantly compared to 2024. This jump comes largely in response to concerns that accounting pay wasn’t keeping pace with other fields attracting the next generation of talent.
