Overview

Big Sky Bravery is actively seeking a seasoned Finance Manager to oversee our financial initiatives, focusing on our day-to-day operations and assisting with our upcoming Capital Campaign. The Finance Manager will have an ongoing impact on company operations, helping us to analyze, strategize, and grow our financial position. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, overseeing cash flow planning, assisting with the preparation and reviewing of budgets, and tracking operational metrics. The ideal candidate will possess a profound understanding of risk management techniques and the proficiency to develop insightful forecasting models. Additionally, this person must uphold the organization’s high standards of conduct, which include confidentiality, trust, and respect for our nation’s military. This is a full-time position based at our office in Bozeman, MT.

Job Responsibilities:

Financial Management

  • Management of all accounting functions – accounts payable, accounts receivable, electronic banking, monthly reconciliations, close month-end books
  • Manage daily expense categorization and follow up with employees as necessary
  • Manage relationships with external partners, including banks, auditors, and other financial service providers
  • Decide on investment strategies by considering cash and liquidity risks
  • Lead Capital Campaign finance oversight and pro forma creation and management
  • Provide financial information and reports as needed for grant applications and reports

Budgeting and Forecasting

  • Assist with the annual budgeting process, working closely with senior leaders and other stakeholders to develop realistic and achievable budgets
  • Monitor actual performance against budget and provide bi-weekly updates and analysis to the CEO
  • Ensure cash flow is compatible with operations by overseeing day-to-day accounting, recording, reporting, and internal-control activities of the organization
  • Control and evaluate the organization’s fundraising plans and capital structure

Board Relations and Reporting

  • Prepare financial statements for review by the Board of Directors

Tax Filing and Compliance

  • Oversee all tax filings and compliance requirements, ensuring that the organization is in compliance with all relevant laws and regulations
  • Manage relationships with external auditors and other financial service providers to ensure compliance with all reporting and regulatory requirements

Required Skills + Qualifications:

  • Degree in Finance or Accounting or related field, or equivalent experience; CPA certification a plus
  • Minimum of 5 years accounting experience
  • Experience with QuickBooks
  • Sophisticated understanding of day-to-day accounting processes, general ledger work, and detailed budget processes
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders
