Student Firm Crawls
Connecting Students With Montana’s Accounting Profession
MTCPA Firm Crawls are guided, small-group tours that bring accounting students and emerging professionals into CPA firms and accounting organizations across Montana. Each “crawl” includes multiple stops where participants visit firms, meet team members, see office culture firsthand, and learn about real-world career paths in the profession.
They are one of MTCPA’s most popular workforce-development and recruitment events because they create authentic, face-to-face engagement between firms and the next generation of accounting talent.

Why Attend?
If you’re thinking about a future in accounting, the Firm Crawl is one of the easiest ways to explore your career options—no pressure, no commitment, just real conversations with real professionals.
During the Firm Crawl, you’ll:
- See what different accounting workplaces are actually like
From small firms to larger teams, get a feel for environments that match your personality and goals. - Meet CPAs and staff who’ve been where you are
Ask questions, hear career stories, and get straightforward insight you won’t find on a brochure. - Learn what firms look for in interns and new hires
Understand the skills, experiences, and steps that can help you stand out early. - Build connections before you enter the job market
Networking now pays off later—this event helps you start building your professional circle. - Discover opportunities you didn’t know existed
Audit, tax, advisory, industry… the range of career paths in accounting is bigger than most students realize.
The Firm Crawl is your chance to explore, learn, and make informed decisions about your future. Space is limited for each Crawl — so register as soon as it opens!
This event is free for all students, and MTCPA student members receive priority registration, giving them first access to available spots.
If you're not a student member yet, it’s quick, free, and comes with year-round perks—so be sure to join before registration goes live!

Why Sponsor?
Unlike passive event sponsorships, Firm Crawls give sponsors embedded involvement—branding throughout the event, recognition in communications, and opportunities to connect directly with participants with extra time and at peak hour (lunch).
Direct Access to Future Talent
Firm Crawls allow organizations to build early relationships with students and job-seekers. Participants leave each visit knowing:
- Who the firm is
- What makes its culture unique
- What internships or full-time opportunities exist
- Why they might want to work there
This level of candid, personal interaction is rarely possible through career fairs alone.
High-Energy, High-Visibility Marketing for the Profession
Each crawl is designed to showcase the breadth of Montana’s accounting community—large firms, boutique firms, specialty practices, and industry organizations. It helps redefine the profession for students by highlighting:
- Community impact
- Diverse service lines
- Modern workplace environments
- Opportunities for growth and specialization
The result: stronger interest in accounting careers.
Strengthens Firm-to-Firm and Firm-to-Student Relationships
Although focused on recruitment, the event also increases connectivity among firms themselves. Partners and staff interact as they host groups, creating a sense of shared purpose in building Montana’s accounting pipeline.
Cost
Crawls are held in towns with a four-year University offering an Accounting program.
Sponsorship costs to host a Firm Crawl depends on the market:
- Helena or Butte: $500
- Billings or Missoula or Bozeman: $1,000
