Accounting Supervisor
Position Description Accounting Supervisor - 1.0 FTE, full year position Reports To: Director of Business Services Salary Range: $88,000 - $92,000/year + $16,000 Annual Additional Compensation + additional annual stipend for preparation of District financial reports (to be determined upon hire)
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supervises an accounting staff engaged in processing and maintaining District financial accounting and general ledger records. This function includes posting transactions to the general ledger, paying bills, accounting for revenues and receivables, processing billings, providing for proper internal accounting, procedures and controls, and accounting for federal programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned):
- Provides for proper internal control and accounting procedures.
- Manages, maintains, and monitors District general ledger accounting processes and functions.
- Assumes lead role in development of preparation of annual financial statements.
- Oversees and performs the financial year end close of the District.
- Prepares external reports for federal, state and regional governmental entities.
- Supervises the annual audit to ensure a timely review of all documents and prepares the annual financial report.
- Oversees the accounting of various District funds such as student activities, athletics, food services, etc.
- Oversees District purchasing/credit card program.
- Prepares and analyzes financial information for administrative level decision making.
- Assists in managing District budget and monitoring line items and reporting on significant variances.
- Oversees District cash flow analyzing revenues and expenditures and recommends investment alternatives.
- Ensures proper and timely reconciliation of all bank accounts.
- Oversees fixed asset accounting.
- Prepares District enrollment counts as required by state law.
- Manages federal, state, and local grant cash and related reporting.
- Keeps current on all governmental accounting standards and reporting requirements.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directly supervises bookkeepers in the Business Office. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the District’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor in Business Administration or related field. Three years’ experience in full charge school or other local government accounting capacity with reporting experience preferred. Experience with budget production and control preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Certified Public Accountant preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, rations and proportions to practical situations. Ability to apply financial concepts such as compound interest, time value of money, tax rates and discounts.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Personal computer and spreadsheet skills. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in a specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Trustee policies.
